Sample fundraising letters/emails
Your letter should include:

A personal salutation. |

The first paragraph should be as personal as possible. |

The second paragraph should tell briefly about what you are doing and why. |

The third paragraph should briefly tell who you are raising funds for—Youth for Christ International. |

Explain your need and what you are asking of them. |

Tell them how to respond and by when. Thank them for whatever they can do. |

Close with your signature. |
| • |
Add a post-script highlighting the most important part of your letter. Many times people will skim the entire letter, but they always read the postscript! |

Dear John and Ruth,
How are you? Did you enjoy your trip to Germany this past summer?
I, too, am planning to go on a trip! I’m planning to bike across the United States next summer—and I’m doing it for a great reason—to help reach young people around the world through Youth for Christ International (YFCI). I’ll be biking with a group of people from around the world for 60 days from Washington State to Maine, covering about 4,300 miles and raising awareness and funds for the outreach of YFCI.
Youth for Christ International is an interdenominational Christian outreach organization active in about 100 countries around the world. God has really touched my life through YFCI and I want other young people to have the same experience.
As part of the team I have committed to raising $6,500 in donations to participate. Would you consider being a part of my support team? Whether you can give $25 or $100 or even $500, your gift will be greatly appreciated. I’d appreciate your prayers too.

Dear David and Carlita,
I have enjoyed the Bible Study that we have been in together, haven’t you? I have learned so much and honestly, it is one of the reasons I have decided to step out on an adventure.
What adventure? Well, I am going to team up with a group of people from several countries and bike across the United States for Youth for Christ International in the summer of 2008. Yes, you read that right! I’m going to bike! Then entire trip will take about 60 days and we will cover 4,300 miles. Most importantly, we hope to make a significant difference by raising awareness and funds to help YFCI reach young people around the globe with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
YFCI is a global organization that has been reaching young people for over 60 years. The funds we raise will help them to be even more effective in accomplishing their mission.
To participate in the trip I have committed to raising $6,500 in donations. I hoping you would consider being a part of my support team. Whether you can give $50, $100, or $1000 it will be greatly appreciated. I can use your prayers too. Please pray for safety and that God would really use this experience to build his Kingdom.
